Almost 30,000 visitors to the Museum in 2022
In 2022, the Police Museum was visited by some 29,500 people. The year culminated in winning the Museum of the Year award.
“We are extremely satisfied with the number of visitors for the whole year, as we had to keep the museum closed almost until mid-February due to various reasons, including the lockdown caused by COVID-19 restrictions. It was only after this that we were able to revert to the usual opening hours, and in June and July, we broke new visitor records. In July, the museum was visited by almost 7,000 people, which accounted for almost a quarter of the visitor number for the whole year,” says Museum Director, Chief Intendant Tiina Tuulasvaara-Kaleva.
Particularly the special exhibition The Coloured Truth – Art crime in Finland has been especially popular, attracting groups to familiarize themselves with the world of fraud and art forgeries.
The year culminated in the Museum of the Year 2022 award granted to the Police Museum.
“This award is a significant recognition for our long-term efforts, not only for Police Museum employees but all of the Finnish police. The Museum of the Year award is particularly appreciated because we are one of Finland’s smallest special museums and our visitor number is at average level.
New special exhibition prepared in 2023
The Coloured Truth exhibition will be on display until 16 December 2023. The museum is already preparing the next special exhibition, due to open in spring 2024.
“Our next special exhibition will be called “Marias and Mörkös”. It will include a diverse display of police vehicles: cars, motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles. This special exhibition will reveal the origin of the nicknames of police vehicles, Maria and Mörkö, included in the name of the exhibition. Be prepared for burning rubber, shiny chrome and the roar of engines,” says Tiina Tuulasvaara-Kaleva.
