Photographic Exhibition on Forensic Criminal Investigation – Photographs from Tampere from the 1920s to the 1950s

The “Photographic Exhibition on Forensic Criminal Investigation” offered perspectives into the work of the forensic investigator and, at the same time, into the history of crime in Tampere.

Old photographs from scenes of crimes and accidents were accompanied by the original pre-trial investigation notes of the forensic investigators. A forensic investigation teacher, photographer and a historian had provided comments on the photographs from their own perspective.

The exhibited photographs were from the archives of the criminal investigation department in Tampere from the 1920s to the 1950s. In those days, taking photographs was expensive, tedious and rare. For this reason, only the cases involving loss of life or extensive loss of property were documented in photographs. The photographs, thus, came across as giving a more cruel impression of criminality than what the reality was.

The exhibition was on display in fall 2010.
