The National Police Museum will reopen to the public on 1 February after a break of a couple of months. During the break, the children's section, or the Pokela police station was relocated. The old permanent exhibition was also taken down, to be replaced by a new permanent exhibition, The Police is Here! , by the summer.

The renewed Pokela police station will offer new attractions for children without forgetting some oldies but goodies.

“For example, the large cartoon wall of Pokela has been updated, as there has been a reorganisation at the Pokela police station. You can take a peek through the peepholes in the wall to see what is going on inside the police station. They are currently working on developing a police robot, among other things,” hints museum curator Maritta Jokiniemi .

“The new Pokela also features the children's own police station, including a garage and a gaol. As usual, children can put on Pokela police overalls if they want.”

A new permanent exhibition opens during the summer

There are two special exhibitions on display at the National Police Museum. The special exhibition celebrating the centennial year of Finland’s independence, Public order collapses - 1917 will continue until 2020. Formally Qualified - a century of Finnish police education , presenting the history of police training in Finland, will remain open until autumn 2020, with the premises gradually renovated.

Preparations and construction of the new The Police is Here! permanent exhibition will be ongoing throughout the spring of 2019. The exhibition explores the role of the police as an actor in society, all the way from the Middle Ages to the present day, displaying everything from ancient courthouses with whipping poles to contemporary cybercrime. The transformation of the relationship between the police and members of the public is a key aspect: how was the police regarded in the past, and the role of the police throughout the ages.
