In 2018, the National Police Museum had 29,400 visitors, which means visitor numbers remained at the same level as in previous years.

“We are happy with the Museum’s visitor numbers. After a couple of record-breaking years, the numbers have now stabilized at slightly under 30,000 visitors per year, which is a very good result. Moreover, the Museum had less opening days than usual last year: we started our Christmas break exceptionally early, already in early December, due to the construction of our new permanent exhibition,” says Maritta Jokiniemi , curator at the National Police Museum.

Christmas break until the end of January

The National Police Museum will open its doors again for the public on 1 February 2019. During the break, the Museum is preparing its new permanent exhibition called The Police is Here! . The new permanent exhibition explores the role of the police as an actor in society, all the way from the Middle Ages to the present day, displaying everything from ancient courthouses with whipping poles to contemporary cybercrime.

Pokela, the children’s own police station, will also be renewed and opened for the public on 1 February 2019. Pokela will get a new look and new, unique police-themed toys, but former items will also be available, including the small police overalls and a police van for children.

There are two special exhibitions on display at the National Police Museum: Public order collapses 1917 , the special exhibition celebrating the centennial year of Finland’s independence, and Formally Qualified - a century of Finnish police education , which presents the history of police training in Finland.
