The Police Museum is a free museum located in Hervanta, Tampere. After Midsummer, the museum will also be open on summer Sundays until August 30.
– There has long been a demand for Sunday opening at the Police Museum, and with our summer opening hours we are responding to this request, says researcher Maritta Jokiniemi.
Increasing visitor numbers and the summer high season are good reasons for extending the opening hours. Initially, Sunday opening is a trial, on the basis of which a decision will be made on whether the museum will also be open on Sundays outside peak seasons.
The Police Museum is open from June 28 to August 30, Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on weekends, Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Experiences for the whole family
The Police Museum presents the history and activities of the Finnish police from the Middle Ages to the present day.
There are three exhibitions: the permanent exhibition Police on the Scene! describes how police work has changed through crime and accident cases from different eras. The special exhibition Marias and Mörkös presents police vehicles: cars, motorcycles, scooters, snowmobiles, and ATVs. The exhibition Art Crime Cases showcases the pre-trial investigation of art crimes through cases that have taken place in Finland.
– The Police Museum offers something to see and experience for the whole family. For example, you can sit in a police van and take a photo of yourself in a suspect registration chair. There is also a children’s section where young visitors can dress up in police overalls.
So, if you are heading to Tampere for your summer holiday, you are warmly welcome to visit the Police Museum as well!
